Period Calculator - Track Your Menstrual Cycle Free
Advanced Period Calculator
The Period Calculator helps you predict the start dates of your upcoming menstrual periods up to six cycles in advance. By entering a few basic details about your cycle, you can see exactly when your next periods are expected, along with your ovulation date and fertile window for the first predicted cycle.
The calculator works by taking your last menstrual period date, your average cycle length, and your cycle regularity, then projecting forward based on your personal pattern. For irregular cycles, it applies a two-day buffer to ovulation and fertile window estimates to give a more realistic range. Results are displayed in a clear key dates table alongside a color-coded timeline chart of your first upcoming cycle.
How to Use the Period Calculator
Follow these steps to get your predictions in seconds:
- Enter your last menstrual period (LMP) – Select the first day of your most recent period using the date picker.
- Enter your cycle length – Input the average number of days between your periods (between 21 and 35 days, with 28 being typical).
- Select your cycle regularity – Choose Regular (±2 days) if your cycle is fairly consistent, or Irregular (>±2 days) if it varies more noticeably.
- Choose how many cycles to predict – Select between 1 and 6 cycles to see how far ahead you want your forecast to go.
- Click “Calculate” – Your predicted period dates, ovulation day, and fertile window will appear immediately along with a full event table and timeline.
Why Use This Period Calculator?
- Multi-Cycle Forecasting – Predicts up to six future period start dates in one calculation, so you can plan weeks or months ahead with confidence.
- Ovulation and Fertile Window – Includes ovulation and fertile window estimates for your first upcoming cycle, making it useful for both conception planning and cycle awareness.

- Timeline Chart – A color-coded visual of the first cycle makes it easy to see where your fertile window (shown in pink) and ovulation (shown in blue) fall.
- Free and Accessible – Works on any device with no registration or payment required.
Understanding the Menstrual Cycle
A menstrual cycle is counted from the first day of one period to the first day of the next. While 28 days is often cited as the average, cycles anywhere between 21 and 35 days are considered normal. Understanding your cycle has practical benefits beyond just knowing when your period is due:
Period Phase – Bleeding typically lasts between 3 and 7 days. Day one of bleeding is day one of your cycle.
Follicular Phase – Estrogen rises as the body prepares to release an egg. This phase begins on day one and ends at ovulation.
Ovulation – Usually occurring around 14 days before the next expected period, ovulation is when a mature egg is released from the ovary. This is the peak fertility point of the cycle.
Luteal Phase – After ovulation, progesterone rises to prepare the uterine lining for a potential pregnancy. If no fertilization occurs, hormone levels drop and the next period begins.
How Are Future Period Dates Calculated?
The calculator uses a straightforward method:
- Your next period start date = LMP date + cycle length
- Each subsequent period is predicted by adding the cycle length to the previous predicted date
- Ovulation is estimated as cycle length minus 14 days from the period start
- The fertile window spans 5 days before ovulation to 1 day after ovulation
- For irregular cycles, ±2 days are added to the ovulation and fertile window estimates
For example, if your LMP was May 1 and your cycle length is 28 days, your next period is predicted to start on May 29, with ovulation around May 15 and your fertile window running from May 10 to May 16.
Who Should Use This Calculator?
This calculator is helpful for women who want to stay ahead of their cycle and avoid being caught off guard by their period, those planning travel, events, or activities around their cycle, women trying to conceive who want to identify their fertile window across upcoming cycles, and anyone who wants a better overall understanding of their menstrual health and patterns.
Tips for More Accurate Predictions
- Track consistently – The more cycles you track, the more accurate your average cycle length becomes. Even a one or two day difference in your average can shift predictions noticeably over several cycles.
- Use your actual LMP – Always enter the first day of bleeding, not the day before or any day of spotting.
- Update regularly – Recalculate at the start of each new cycle using your most recent LMP for the most accurate upcoming predictions.
- Note unusual cycles – Stress, illness, travel, or hormonal changes can all shift your cycle temporarily. If your period arrives earlier or later than predicted, update your tracker rather than assuming the calculator is wrong.
Important Note
The predictions generated by this calculator are estimates based on your average cycle pattern and should be used as a planning guide rather than a guarantee. Cycle lengths can naturally vary from month to month. If you notice significant or persistent irregularities in your cycle, it is worth speaking with a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying causes.
