SGPA to CGPA Converter

Calculate your Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from Semester GPAs

How It Works

Enter your SGPA for each semester and the corresponding credits (if applicable). The calculator will compute your CGPA based on the weighted average of all semesters.

Formula used: CGPA = Sum(SGPA × Credits for each semester) / Sum(Total Credits)

About SGPA and CGPA

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average): SGPA is the average of grade points obtained in all the subjects in a semester.

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average): CGPA is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the semesters completed by a student.

Importance: CGPA provides a comprehensive overview of a student's academic performance across multiple semesters, making it a valuable metric for academic evaluation and career opportunities.

The SGPA to CGPA Converter calculates your Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from the Semester Grade Point Averages (SGPAs) you have earned across multiple semesters. It supports two calculation methods — a simple average for semesters with equal credits, and a weighted average for semesters that carry different credit loads. Your equivalent percentage is also calculated automatically alongside your CGPA, making this tool useful for academic records, job applications, and university admissions.

Understanding SGPA and CGPA

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the average of the grade points earned across all subjects in a single semester. It reflects your performance for that semester only.

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the overall average of your SGPAs across all completed semesters, weighted by the credit load of each semester where applicable. It represents your total academic performance throughout your degree programme.

Calculation Methods

Simple Average — Used when all semesters carry equal credits. The CGPA is the sum of all SGPAs divided by the number of semesters.

Formula: CGPA = Sum of SGPAs ÷ Number of Semesters

Weighted Average — Used when semesters have different credit totals. Each SGPA is multiplied by its semester’s credit count, and the result is divided by the total credits across all semesters.

Formula: CGPA = Sum (SGPA × Credits) ÷ Sum of All Credits

Percentage conversion: Once your CGPA is calculated, the equivalent percentage is shown using the standard formula: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5.

How to Use the SGPA to CGPA Converter

Follow these steps to calculate your CGPA:

  1. Select a calculation method — Choose “Simple Average” if all your semesters carry the same number of credits, or “Weighted Average” if credit counts vary between semesters.
  2. Enter your SGPA values — The converter starts with two semester rows. Enter your SGPA for each semester, from 0 to 10, including decimals such as 8.75 or 9.25.
  3. Enter credits (weighted mode only) — If you selected Weighted Average, enter the credit hours for each semester in the corresponding field.
  4. Add more semesters — Click “Add Semester” to include additional rows for as many semesters as you need. Use the X button to remove any semester beyond the minimum two.
  5. Calculate — Click “Calculate CGPA” to instantly generate your result.
  6. Review your result — The result card displays your CGPA rounded to two decimal places and your equivalent percentage calculated using the standard 9.5 factor.

Why Use This Converter?

Two calculation methods — Whether your semesters carry uniform or varying credit loads, the correct method is available. Switching between simple and weighted modes shows or hides the credits fields automatically.

Unlimited semesters — Add as many semesters as your degree requires. The converter handles the full span of a multi-year programme without any restrictions.

Automatic percentage conversion — Your equivalent percentage is calculated and displayed alongside your CGPA every time, saving you an extra conversion step.

Precise results — Both CGPA and percentage are shown to two decimal places, providing the level of accuracy required for transcripts, applications, and official documents.

Free and accessible — Works instantly in any browser on any device with no account, download, or payment required.
